an 'uncurated' life
size: 80cm (h) x 50cm (w) Free machine embroidery on calico. artist statement This contemporary social media feed comprises a highlight reel of items that are inspired by the fragmented rhythms of daily life, depicted in pleasing compositions, employing aesthetic appeal through pattern, repetition, colour and whimsy. I have incorporated once used and familiar objects, re-imagined in their ordinariness and transformed into items of reverie, regard, respect and esteem through stitch. The work embraces an everyday domesticity that is not usually on show: an 'un-curated' life. A place where we can connect to those things that ground us, providing a sense of belonging and normality to our lives as a respite from the assault of the outside world. Not everything we own has financial value but it does have significance when seen through the eyes of memory and the connection of shared experiences with loved ones. untethered.fibre.artists - 'Found Narrative' exhibition 2019-2021 2019 wallarobbah arts and culture centre, hornsby NSW 2020 muswellbrook regional gallery, muswellbroook NSW 2021 gallerym, oaklands park. south australia |
