donut days
size: 157cm (h) x 29cm (w) Machine and hand stitch, typed text, breakdown screen printing cotton, machine quilted. artist statement This work was inspired by the morning briefings of the Victorian Government during lockdown in 2020 that I watched in the ABC news each day. It reflects the joy, relief and empathy I felt for my fellow Australians when hearing that no new cases had been noted for the previous day and the coining of the term 'donut day' was the catalyst for this work. The work is quilted and stitched. Fabric is hand printed using a breakdown printing technique using accessible kitchen products as the resist, text is typed and fabric is machine and hand stitched. Raw threads are exposed reflecting the emotions we feel and the precarious sense of control and freedom we experience during lockdowns based on factors we have no control over. 2021 'she dreams in colour' timeless textiles solo exhibition, Newcastle NSW
