Solo Exhibitionshe dreams in colour - Artist Kelcie Bryant-Duguid explores the quiet spaces inhabited between the harsh reality of the 2020 news-cycle with that of the idyllic childhood concerns of daydreams, escapism, and play in 'She dreams in colour'.
The pandemic has given us the gift of time, an escape from the usual busy-ness of life that offers moments for reflection and introspection. It has also raised concern over how and what we learn about the world and local events in the age of 'fake' news and 'alternative facts'. The importance of language and how it shapes cultural expectation, responsibility and action are recurrent themes. Paper, print and stitch are continuing elements of Kelcie's practice. Repetition of pattern, shape, texture, colour and form are employed in her two and three-dimensional paper and ceramic works. Stitched landscapes, printed bird and banksia themed textile wearable art garments and mixed media works motivated by memory and longing are also featured in this exhibition. During this past year, the pandemic has allowed for a space of reflection and observation of local surroundings. Car trips, cloud gazing and a focus on the garden and nature have been inspiration for her narrative works. The exhibition is open from 18 March to 25 April 2021. With the opening event being held on Thursday 18 March from 6-8pm. A link to the exhibition and works for sale is available on the Timeless Textiles website (link below).
