In my practice I continue to explore contemporary stitch using paper as the 'fabric' of choice. These works on paper employ stitch as an important element in their construction and as a mark-making tool. Hand and machine stitch are used in conjunction with techniques such as frottage, collage, printmaking, stencilling, dye, ink, paint and watercolour.

What is newsworthy?
This work is part of a larger series that explores the censorship of our news.
Women’s issues are often seen as invisible or ignored. The white ink hides the truth in the text.
In this work the colour pink is used to depict the feminist movement and references the #MeToo movement that addresses inequality in the form of sexual harassment and assault.
‘White washing’ is defined as preventing people from learning the truth. This work seeks to raise questions surrounding how women’s voices are silenced or ignored. The way we discuss domestic violence, homelessness, educational and employment opportunities, access to healthcare, the right of women to control their own bodies, the list goes on. It speaks of mansplaining and dismissive and undermining behaviour.
The aim of this work is to challenge social norms to create a more inclusive and equitable society. And promote conversation on women’s issues.

This series maps a (sometimes) daily journey for many of us. The emotions and trials we keep hidden from the world spill from us to colour our day. There is a sadness; a sense of being overwhelmed in the everyday. It is a not uncommon personal and reflective journey.
The work forces us to stop and look at the small details. It is a synthesis of all that makes us who we are, what we do, where we go and perhaps more significantly how we travel. Some days are easy and light and effortless. Others are not.
The earth grounds us. By taking time we can move past the blue to instead see the alternate possibilities of the day. Stitched together, we are connected by our shared humanity. Our paths are not that different. We are not alone.
