monotype - exploring stitch
artist statement Language is key. My interpretation was a lighthearted play on words reflecting on the often monotonous daily routine of lockdown during covid throughout 2020-21. The words say it all! The image, taken from a sketch in my life drawing class is repurposed and used as a linear monotype on fabric. Hand coloured with watercolour fabric pencils and machine embroidered to add detail. The work was then constructed into a cushion. |
I may have seized the wrong day...
size: 35cm (h) x 47cm (w) monotype on calico, hand coloured with watercolour fabric pencils, sewing thread, machine stitch This work was part of a group installation. The cushion project relates to the women throughout history who can be said to have subverted the traditional home decor item using text or illustration to express strongly held feelings, beliefs and opinions, disguised within a traditional textile artefact. My work however is a little less serious and far more tongue in cheek! 2021 'homeward bound 2060' exhibition, untethered fibre artists group installation. the coal loader, north sydney NSW |
